At around the end of August, the mountains can be seen clearer than ever – in clarity normally only seen on picture postcards!

Nature pauses for a while and the sound of cow bells ringing from the alpine pastures slowly fades away. Farmers of the region incredibly busy – making the last hay of the season and dusting off the giant cow bells to adorn their cattle for the traditional “Almabtrieb”cattle drive and home coming celebrations.

An ideal time for walking in the mountains of Zillertal, with many opportunities offered by the Nature Park Zillertal.
A time ideally spent on improving health and fitness levels, to sample regional specialities and enjoy local tradition, unique to Zillertal in the autumn season.

The “Almabtrieb” (cattle drive) is also an unparalleled experience, with bustling farmers‘ markets and many music festivals. These events take place during the weekends from the beginning of September to mid October.
